6 kinds of process types for making non-woven filter medium materials 2023-02-03

Do you know what non-woven filter materials? I'm going to show you six different ways of producing filter media.

The method used to manufacture the filter medium depends mainly on the type of filtration required. There are six main methods, which are as follows:

1. Carding method

The filter medium of carding machines has traditionally been used in masks and to filter cooking oil, coolant oil, and milk. Resin or thermal bonding is usually used, and this method is in some cases replaced by other methods described below.

2. Wet method

Wet process and wet filter media are used in swimming pool filters, coffee filters and high efficiency particulate air filters. They are made in a process similar to paper, in which a mixture of artificial, natural, or fiberglass staple fibers forms a paper-like medium on standard paper equipment.

3. Meltblow method

Meltblow filter media are ideal for filtering fine particles such as dust, asbestos, and smoke. This is the type of filter commonly found in respirators and is easy to mass produce. It is formed without the use of fibers: instead, the molten polymer is blown into a network of micropores.

4. Spunbond method

Spunbond filter media are lightweight and can be used for air and liquid filtration. Like melt-blown media, they do not require the use of fibers, but are spun together from nylon, polyester, or polypropylene. In addition, they are lightweight and heat-resistant.

5. Acupuncture method

The manufacture of needling filter media is a mechanical process that involves the use of needling felt needles to locate and interlock spunbond or comb the fibers in the web. The three-dimensional structure of pinhole filter media is ideal for trapping particles both on the surface and inside the filter. This is a type of filtration commonly used to clean, for example, incoming water and sewage.

6. Compound method

Nonwoven composites are processes that use different techniques to bond multiple layers of nonwoven materials and polymers into composites that combine the properties of each layer. Filter media manufactured during the process, layering is ideal for heating, cooling, and ventilating homes, buildings, and cars.
